Four heart-shaped rocks lined up horizontally from largest to smallest

Welcome to The Casual Rockhound!

Hi, I am Erin, aka The Casual Rockhound. I love rocks. I love looking for rocks. I seem to have a knack for finding rocks shaped like hearts.

The name of this site is a bit tongue-in-cheek. I'm not blasé or lazy about rockhounding. I have put plenty of time and effort into it over the years. I'm just not as gung-ho about investing all my time and money into it as many other rock enthusiasts seem to be. I'm certainly not trying to make a profit on the rocks I find.

To me, rockhounding is purely fun and something I do when I get the urge. Let’s face it, rocks are everywhere. That's actually one of the best things about rockhounding as a hobby, in my opinion. It can be done anytime you walk outside, and it can be done for free!

Rockhounding is also a great way to spend quality time with someone you love who also is into rocks and locating them. I have found it to be more and more family friendly as my (currently 8-year-old) son has gotten older.

If you think you might be ready to try a little low-key, casual rockhounding, please check out some of my favorite finds so far and my tips for doing it the casual way.
